| Monday 21, Day 10: |
| Check-out after early breakfast and transferred
to Sharm-el-Sheikh airport for flight to Cairo departing at
08h30. Met on arrival in Cairo at 09h30 and transferred to
check-in at a day-use room in a 5* hotel. After checking-in
and a short rest we depart for a tour to the Pyramids &
Sphinx. At the Giza Plateau, just outside Cairo, the visitor
is presented with one of the most beautiful sights created by
the hand of Man.
It is here that the Egyptian saying “Everybody fears
Time, but Time fears the Pyramids” is most appropriate. Giza
is the present name given to the great necropoli or burial
site of Cairo and it consists of a plateau of about 2 000
square metres.
The Sphinx, together with the three Great Pyramids of
Cheops, Chephren and Mycerinus are found here. The three
pyramids are arranged diagonally but in such a way that none
of them hides the sun from the other two.
The tour includes entry into the Giza Plateau only. Return
to hotel after tour..
For those staying on for the Luxor leg.... sleep, sleep,
sleep. |

| OVERNIGHT AT THE 5* HILTON HOTEL IN CAIRO |
| Friday 25th, Day
14: |
|
Day at leisure on own arrangements which could include a visit to
the Egyptian Museum (additional cost) which is situated immediately
adjacent to the hotel. The Egyptian Museum was opened in 1902 and
contains an extensive library and over 100 exhibition rooms covering
two floors.
The most important collection of the museum is that of King Tut
Ankh Amun, especially his gold coffin made out of 450 pounds of
solid gold, which is perhaps the greatest example of gold-smithing
work in history.
But there are also other masterpieces dating from the Ancient
Kingdom like the statues of Cheops, Chephren and Mycerinus, in whose
honour the Great Pyramids of Giza were built.
You can also visit the Khan-el-Khalili Bazaar (additional cost) to
test your bargaining skills. The Khan-el-Khalili Bazaar is second
oldest in the world only to the Covered Bazaar in Istanbul.
It was built by Prince Garkas Al Khalili in 1382 and artifacts to
be found there are gold, copper, brass, glass, wood and paper of the
highest quality with exquisite workmanship.
Here you can watch the world go by from one of the many coffee
shops where you can sip minty Egytian tea and sample some of the
flavoured tobaccos in a traditional sheesha, more commonly known as
water-pipes or "hubbly-bubbly's".
Another fascinating site in Cairo is the Mohammed Ali mosque
(additional cost). It was built in 1830 in honour of Mohammed Ali,
the commander of the Albanian troops in Egypt who helped to free
Egypt from Napoleon’s occupation in 1805.
In the centre court there is a fountain where devout Muslims
perform their ablutions before saying their prayers which take place
five times a day. The clock tower on the western side of the
fountain was presented by King Louis-Philippe of France to Mohamed
Ali Pasha in 1845.
On your last evening in Cairo you could also enjoy traditional
entertainment and dinner whilst sailing on the Nile river and
enjoying Cairo by night (additional cost), or you could return to
the Pyramids at Giza for the awe-inspiring Sound & Light
entertainment show (additional cost). |
